Idiots are us, if we continue to let fear override compassion…
For thousand of years mankind roamed freely across this amazing planet, moving with the climate, following sources of food and water. Natures abundance was respected as was our freedom, as a species to explore, experience and evolve. There was no right and wrong way to live, no right or wrong traditions just difference, based on experience.
Diversity and difference define us as a species. Our innate intelligence along with our freedom to choose, are at the heart of our evolution and that’s not about to change. Yet we now live in a world that largely fears difference, derides diversity and rarely acknowledges abundance.
We have set ourselves up in nations with borders, with implied “ownership” based on agreed or collective sets of rules – rules that define right and wrong, good and bad, acceptable and unacceptable behaviours. Rules that are based on Religious beliefs, a variety of cultural traditions, legal precedent, legislation and weather you are born male or female… Rules that promote a culture of same.
More recent centuries continued to see our movement across the planet driven by need, be it economic hardship, physical danger or some form of social or religious persecution. It’s worth noting, we generally do not choose to abandon home, family and community without good reason…
Unfortunately, most recent times have seen a populist backlash against the rights of the individual in need, to move freely away from hardship or danger. Boarders have been blocked, quotas set and humanity sacrificed in the name of fear.
I believe each and every one of us has a right to flee danger or hardship and choose where we wish to safely live on this planet. The only thing that stops this from being a commonly held view is fear. Fear of different cultural or religious traditions and fear loss, not having enough land, food, income, accommodation…
All this from a species that lives and breaths diversity, weather they acknowledge it or not – and is surrounded by abundance, weather they acknowledge it or not. How well do we really know ourselves and our world………??
Come on team, take off the blinkers of fear!
We are all only temporary guests on this amazing planet, none of us have anything like divine authority over all. We all have equal right to adequate nutrition and somewhere safe to live within a community to which we may positively contribute – regardless of our heritage or circumstance…
They’re called basic human rights.
Funny how basic human rights align with basic human needs……………
